Jue Xiang
Rural Training Program
The “Jue Xiang” rural training program has been successfully completed. It was a meaningful and vibrant journey into music education. The program aimed to impart the culture of drumming to students throughout various schools in Malaysia, fostering a love for music and percussion while conveying the essence of culture and team spirit through the bridge of music.
During the months-long training itinerary, we visited eight primary schools, each offering a unique musical experience, allowing students to personally feel the powerful impact and artistic charm of percussion music. Every activity in each school was filled with laughter, as students gradually learned about drumming under the guidance of instructors and actively participated in interactive practices that stimulated their creativity and artistic potential.
The training journey covered various locations:
We began at SJKC Chin Hwa, Perlis. This was the starting point of the program and the place where students’ initial interest in drumming was sparked. Through basic percussion rhythm training, students experienced the endless possibilities of music in the classroom and gradually became familiar with the interaction between drumsticks and beats.
Next, we arrived at SJKC On Pong 2, where the training became more advanced. At this stop, students not only learned basic rhythms but also how to integrate music with culture, using percussion to express the traditional spirit of festivals and celebrations.
The students of SJKC Yak Chee demonstrated excellent learning abilities. At this stop, the activities were more diverse; students not only learned drumming techniques but also began creating their own musical pieces and explored rhythm and tonal variations in percussion through teamwork.。
At SJKC Kepong 3, the training advanced to a more challenging stage. Through continuous practice, the students gradually mastered complex rhythmic variations and demonstrated strong teamwork skills through group collaboration. Their enthusiasm for learning made this training particularly remarkable.
The students of SJKC Kg Baru Ampang excelled in music composition and improvisation. Under the guidance of their instructors, they not only learned traditional drumming techniques but also boldly experimented with innovation by incorporating modern music elements into their performances, showcasing the creativity and unique ideas of the younger generation.
The training at SJKC Han Ming focused on meticulous technique training. Students learned how to control the rhythm and atmosphere of the music through precise drumming. This training further enhanced their understanding and mastery of drumming performance, significantly improving each student’s sense of rhythm.
The training atmosphere at SJKC Bandar Sungai Long was full of energy. Students engaged in enjoyable rhythm exercises, experiencing the importance of teamwork. Through collaboration with their classmates, everyone completed a wonderful drumming ensemble, fostering a strong sense of collective honor.
At the final stop of the tour — SJKC Chung Sin in Tanjung Malim — the students reached the pinnacle of their drumming skills. Through numerous rehearsals and the meticulous guidance of their instructors, they showcased the results of their months of learning with a brilliant drumming performance at the graduation ceremony. This performance not only made the parents proud of their children but also brought the entire program to a perfect close.

Inheritance and Innovation of Culture
Throughout the training, students not only learned techniques but also experienced Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity through the rhythms of drumming. The “Jue Xiang” rural training program perfectly combined tradition and innovation, allowing each participant to find their unique expression through music. At the same time, the instructors encouraged students to break through tradition, incorporate their own creativity, and breathe new life into drumming.
Future Outlook
The success of this rural training program not only proved the wide appeal of drumming art among students but also demonstrated our ability to connect different regions and convey cultural spirit through music. In the future, we hope to extend this program to more schools and communities, allowing more children to encounter and fall in love with drumming, continuing the legacy of this vibrant art form.
The “Jue Xiang” rural training program has come to a successful conclusion, but the resonance of the drums continues. We look forward to every future musical journey igniting the musical dreams of more children, composing their own musical chapters.
